  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter cold, cut into ½-inch cubes
  • ¼ cup ice water plus more as needed

  • ½ cup strawberry jam or preserves
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pink and red sprinkles for topping, optional

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, kosher salt, and granulated sugar.
  2. Add the cold unsalted butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add ice water, stirring until the dough comes together.
  4. Divide the dough into two pieces, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Roll out one piece of the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  2. Cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter.
  3. Place half of the heart shapes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of strawberry jam onto the center of each heart shape.
  5. Top with the remaining heart shapes and seal the edges with a fork.
  6. Repeat with the second piece of dough.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake the pop-tarts in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to create icing.
  10. Drizzle the icing over the cooled pop-tarts and top with sprinkles if desired.
